Anantnag, Mar 20 (KNO): A massive fire that erupted in Kadipora area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district destroyed over a dozen houses on Thursday.
Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that fire broke out from one structure in Gajinag Kadipora locality in the old town and quickly spread to neighboring houses in the densely populated area.
They said fire tenders from across Anantnag district battled the flames, adding that the timely evacuation from the burning houses saved lives.
Over a dozen structures have been damaged due to the massive blaze; final figures are yet to be determined as the firefighting operation is underway, they said.
They said the flames engulfed the entire locality, and some of the cylinders kept inside houses exploded. The locality is highly congested.
“The F&ES, along with officials from the Anantnag Police, CRPF, Army, and local residents, worked to bring the fire under control,” they said.
